Was Jesus a Communist or Capitalist?

Kara Powell | Dec 21, 2010

Somehow in the midst of my November travels, I missed this CNN article and video asking “Was Jesus a Communist or a Capitalist?” The story and video feature Shane Claiborne from The Simple Way and Peter Greer, president of Hope International.

My favorite line from the article is when Shane responds to the question of whether Jesus was a Communist or Capitalist by answering:

Jesus wasnt anything that ended in ‘ist’ - he was an existential lover - but I think that he was challenging all these systems, and he was pulling the best of the people in those systems out.

I love the idea that Jesus wasn’t anything that ended in “ist”.

A few days before Christmas, I’m grateful that Jesus is the bringer of Justice, hope, peace, and life.
