Maybe Bono is Wrong

At least so says Dambisa Moyo, a native Zambian with a Harvard and Oxford education who recently authored the book Dead Aid: Why Aid Is Not Working and How There Is a Better Way for Africa. Moyo says in a recent article, “No country on Earth has ever achieved long-term growth and reduced poverty in a meaningful way by relying on aid. It’s just never happened. So we’re pushing a strategy that has no evidence of working anywhere on Earth. And we have years of evidence that the aid strategy doesn’t work.”
I’m not sure I agree with Moyo but I do know this: justice moves beyond aid. It changes systems. It creates not handouts, but jobs for the 60% of Africans who are under age 24. Moyo sees mass African job creation emerging through a mixture of trade, foreign direct investment, capital markets, the bond market, remittance and microfinance.
Many of you have seen God’s Kingdom justice happen in your communities and you know it makes a long-term difference. And that we celebrate.
