Fruit From the Street
A couple of weeks ago, as you might have seen, Ted Williams started Monday homeless on the streets and by Friday his life had completely turned around. Thanks to a Youtube video shot by a local reporter in Columbus, Ohio (for up to date info, check here), panhandling instantly became old hat and Oprah was knocking at his door. Because of his deep baritone voice, Ted has been offered jobs, television interviews, and a chance to reunite with his mother. It’s a true, week-long, rags-to-riches experience. This story became the face of viral news as it spread across the country at lightning speed.
Lots of credit has been given, and rightly so, to Doral Chenoweth III who was the one who discovered and shot the video of Ted. His efforts have been the source of Ted Williams’ outrageous success story. Yet he was simply doing what his job calls for; reporting the news.
Working with youth is so much more than fulfilling responsibilities or daily duties. Lives are in your hands! The care that’s needed to make a positive and biblical impact far exceeds the limits of a job description. It’s up to you to help plant, cultivate, and water physical and spiritual lives.
This story is an example of fruit. It’s the reward for simply doing your job and for doing what is right. These moments are to be cherished and marked because they’re in short-supply all around.
When’s the last time you tasted and celebrated fruit?
