Kara Powell interviews Cynthia Eriksson, a Fuller clinical psychology faculty member who specializes in trauma. Cynthia shares insights and strategies for working through pain and suffering, particularly considering the vicarious pain we experience in youth ministry.
Cynthia is one of three faculty in the Headington Program in International Trauma at Fuller Seminary and an Assistant Professor of Psychology. The Headington Program conducts innovative research in order to better understand the variables affecting acute, chronic, and post-traumatic stress, and creatively applies this knowledge to the development of better methods of identification and treatment of individuals, families, and communities that have been affected by chronic stress and trauma. Cynthia has participated in trauma research and training in Liberia, Guatemala, The Netherlands, and Japan.
Kara Powell, PhD, is the Executive Director of the Fuller Youth Institute (FYI) and a faculty member at Fuller Theological Seminary. As a youth ministry veteran of over 20 years, she serves as an Advisor to Youth Specialties and is the author or co-author of a number of books including Sticky Faith, Essential Leadership, Deep Justice Journeys, Deep Justice in a Broken World, Deep Ministry in a Shallow World, and the Good Sex Youth Ministry Curriculum.
