In his blog last week, my friend Rudy Carrasco pointed to this great 3 minute video from the 2010 TED Conference.  It is SO worth watching, especially if you care about leadership.

My favorite quote from the video:  “The first follower is what transforms the lone nut into a leader.”

Indeed, there is great power in finding, or being that first follower.

What are you wanting to do to lead out but are afraid to?

Who could be some of your first followers?

What would the movement look like?

Seriously, this video is worth watching and thinking about.

This is definitely a new and interesting way to look at leadership!  This entire process of what a movement looks like is so true and important to remember that the leaders should “embrace followers as equals so the movement becomes about them; not just the leader”

i love this video, been thinking about it since I first saw it last year.  The first follower is so critical, it’s what legitimizes a leader.  So even as followers we need to take note as to what we are legitimizing.

From where I sit the leader is the second guy. An innovator is not the same as a leader. The leader acknowledged the “lone nut” and their innovation and then worked to bring others on board. Then a movement started.
