Be Quiet

It’s Friday.  If your life is anything like mine, today, tomorrow, and the next day are going to be filled with anything but quiet.

That’s too bad.  I suspect we all need a little more silence.  For the class I teach on worship and spiritual disciplines, one hour of silence is required this week.  Intentional silence and solitude, not just 3-AM-while-I’m sleeping silence. That means I need to revisit my next three days and make space to do the assignment myself.

I’ve appreciated April Diaz’s 4-part series on soul care, wrapping up this month with a final piece on silence and solitude.  If you need some more momentum to get quiet, or more direction for what to do if you take time for solitude, we hope this will be a resource to you.  Mother Teresa once said:

We need to find God, and he cannot be found in noise and restlessness. God is the friend of silence….the more we receive in silent prayer, the more we can give in our active life. 1
