Managing Your Energy

I feel like tomorrow’s kickoff of the National Youth Workers Convention starts my most busy two months of the year with a host of speaking engagements and travel.  Last week, I felt the Lord was reminding me that during seasons of busyness, it’s not just about managing time, it’s also about managing energy.

A good friend of mine sent me a link to this Tony Schwartz blog on energy.   It’s somewhat common sense, but these days I am especially struck by my need to view life as a marathon, not a sprint (maybe it’s because I turned 40 last month).

For me, my growth edge with energy is making sure that I have enough energy to be the mom and wife I want to be at the end of the day.  Some days I feel like I give so much at work that my family gets the crumbs.  I hate that feeling, and I’m learning to monitor my energy during the day so I have plenty leftover at night and weekends.

What are you doing these days to manage your energy at work, in your personal life, or both?
