One Question to Always Ask

In Relational Leadership: A Biblical Model for Influence and Service, Walt Wright, Executive Director of the Max De Pree Center for Leadership at Fuller, says that whenever he’s recruiting someone, he asks them, “Why do you want to work here?”

Sounds basic, right?  Admittedly so.  And yet as I think about my recruiting of both volunteers and staff members, I’m not sure I always ask that question.  I often tell them why I think they’d like working here, or I talk about why I like working here, but I would guess that I ask this basic “why” question only about 50% of the time.

What other questions do you think are important to ask potential volunteers or staff members?  I know you have some great ideas…
