Brad, my awesome FYI colleague, sent me an article about teen suicides by train in Palo Alto, where I went to college.  I can picture the train tracks that they are talking about and it deeply saddens me.

Kids are hurting.

I was just talking with a youth worker today about an FYI article on how we as adults can respond to kids who are stressed or traumatized.  It’s such a constant issue that I re-post it here today.

    I learned about this the other day when a friend commented on my blog post about de-stigmatizing mental health. Apparently there have been several other suicides that may have been prevented because parents followed their kids to the tracks.

    Stress is a HUGE issue for teens, and drives most of the other issues that they deal with. I’m trying to figure out how to educate both teens and parents at our church and at our high school about how to deal with it and mitigate it.

    First on our family list is to get more sleep. We haven’t achieved that goal yet, unfortunately. The U2 concert certainly didn’t help.
