Question #3 for Frantic Families

The Powell family isn’t a frantic family but we are busy.  And we have those moments of franticness.   Patrick Lencioni in The Three Big Questions for a Frantic Family gives three important questions for families, two of which I’ve covered in my last two blogs.

Here’s the final question:  how are you going to maintain the uniqueness and rallying cry you’ve set for yourselves?  (Note:  this question will make a whole lot more sense if you read the last two days’ blogs).

We’ve all set goals, written them down, and then forgotten about them.  To counter this, Lencioni suggests couples (or families) touch base every week, even for ten minutes, to review how they are doing.  Celebrate the progress, brainstorm ways to overcome any obstacles.

For the Powells, Dave and I are going to touch base every Sunday night (as long as the Chargers aren’t playing).  I’m excited to do even just a few minutes of big picture thinking.

Many of us do that sort of planning in our professional or ministry lives.  I think our homes deserve the same level of intentionality.  Do you?

Kara, thank you so much for these last 3 blog entries. This sounds like a fantastic and challenging book! I’m going to have to get my hands on this.

My question is how do we as churches and youth ministries keep from ADDING TO the franticness of families’ lives? How can we help families discover their uniqueness and listen to their rallying cries, instead of just being another item on their list of To-Do’s?
