Exodus: Intergen Worship

In The Church of All Ages: Generations Worshiping Together, Howard Vanderwell reminds us that when God delivered the Hebrews from their Egyptian captivity, God instructed them to observe the Passover regularly as a reminder of their freedom.  This celebration was intended to be a permanent ritual, and shared by all generations.

In fact, the children were supposed to ask, “What do you mean by this observance?” (Exodus 12:26, 13:14).

Even today, a young Jewish child is supposed to ask questions about the meaning of the Seder meal.

It’s interesting that children played such a prominent role in the Passover ritual in Exodus.  And it’s sad that children are so often pushed to the margins today.  It’d be great if we could return to that sort of integration of children, wouldn’t it?
