I’ve been doing some research for an article series on teenage guys for this fall, and I thought I might open-source this a bit and get your input.  So here goes:

What do you think are some of the biggest, most pressing, and/or most troubling issues for adolescent guys right now? And…What should we be doing to address them in youth ministry?

Similarly, what are our greatest opportunities right now with guys in our sphere of influence? What’s God doing among young men that we can be encouraged by and see as catalysts for growth?

Would love to hear your feedback.  And I have a writing deadline this week, so I’d really love your QUICK feedback!

    Hi Brad,

I am a volunteer youth leader to middle school boys. I’d say that family issues (divorce, relationships with parents, respecting parents/guardians, etc.) are number one, followed by peer pressures/peer relationships/pressures of the world as fabricated by media, then balancing their extracurricular activities with their education – which all create stress. I think teens are stressed out!

Totally agree, Dave, that family issues are huge, and feed into a lot of what guys are wrestling with in charting a path through adolescence. Add other stress to that, and you’ve got all kinds of explosive material…
