Recently Dale Ryan, director of the Fuller Institute for Recovery Ministry, led a seminar for local youth workers on understanding and responding to kids who cut and perform other acts of self-harm. In addition to his work at Fuller, Dale also serves as the CEO of Christian Recovery International, an organization helping the Christian community become a safer and more accommodating place for people recovering from addiction, abuse, or trauma. He has authored several books, including Soul Repair: Rebuilding Your Spiritual Life (co-authored), and Letting God Be God.
This podcast offers both helpful insights into the “whys” of self-injury as well as the “what now?” we face when we discover cutting or other self-injury in the lives of kids we know and work with. For more resources on this issue, please read the article “Beyond Skin Deep” by Maria Drews.
