Last week I spoke about Deep Justice Journeys at the Willow Creek Shift Conference.  During my seminar, we talked about how we could tangibly help folks who are homeless in our communities.

One youth worker shared his frustration with a city ordinance that prohibited anyone from giving food or clothing to folks who are homeless.  At this point, a teenager who was at my seminar (teenagers participated in Shift) raised his hand and said, “How about if you invite the homeless to come and eat with you?  There’s no law against that is there?”

I smiled and asked, “How old are you?”

“13.”

Priceless.  I love the creativity of teenagers these days when it comes to justice.  They are inspiring.

Yes, it is priceless, and also biblical, Jesus invites us to go to the highways and byways and invite folks in. This is a lot messier than going to feed folks at the shelter…I love being inspired by 13 year olds.
