I couldn’t be more excited about how God is working through teenagers and youth ministries to bring deep justice to our broken world. A junior from my own church is leading a justice revolution at her high school to eradicate human trafficking. In an article this week in our local Pasadena newspaper, Claire wrote, “We can change the world. I’m ready to make this world different. I’m ready to be the change. Are you?”
Boiling inside our students is the passion to change the world. Many of us will see that first-hand in upcoming spring break and summer short-term mission trips. In order to support God’s transformative work in your ministries, we are developing a Deep Justice and Short-Term Missions Curriculum that you can use before, during, and after your justice and service experiences. We’ve been working with a fantastic team of writers from all over the country and we’re thrilled with their great ideas. We offer this work-in-process curriculum free to you to use in 2008. All we ask is that you take a few minutes to collaborate with us by filling out the feedback survey through following the link below.
As a thank-you for your partnership in piloting this curriculum, e-mail us by the end of the week saying you will use the curriculum and give us feedback, and we will enter you into a drawing for one of ten free copies of our recently-released book, Deep Justice in a Broken World. Please e-mail us at cyfm@fuller.edu with your name, address, and how you will be using the curriculum. What a deal, eh?
For students like Claire who are ready to be the change, let’s figure out how to walk along the justice journey with them.

Kara E. Powell, PhD, is the Executive Director of the Center for Youth and Family Ministry and an Assistant Professor of Youth, Family, and Culture at Fuller Theological Seminary. She has been in youth ministry for 20 years and is the author of many articles and books including Deep Justice in a Broken World (co-authored with Chap Clark, Zondervan, 2008) Deep Ministry in a Shallow World (co-authored with Chap Clark, Zondervan, 2006) Help! I’m a Woman in Youth Ministry (Zondervan, 2004) Mirror! Mirror! (Zondervan, 2003), and the Good Sex Curriculum Guide (co-authored with Jim Hancock, Zondervan, 2001).
Recently Fuller hosted Christian Smith, author of Soul Searching: The Religious and Spiritual Lives of American Teenagers, for a panel discussion following a screening of the new film documenting his research. Also called Soul Searching, the film screening was followed by a discussion with responses by Dr. Chap Clark and Dr. Kara Powell from Fuller, as well as Smith. This month’s audio download features highlights from the responses of Clark, Powell, and Smith to the film and the research from the National Study of Youth and Religion.

In an effort to provide you with high-quality FREE resources, as well as to learn from you, we’re inviting you to collaborate with us on the testing and editing process for our latest curriculum project, Deep Justice and Short-Term Missions. This month’s download is an entirely FREE 72-page pdf of the “BEFORE THE TRIP” options you can use with your team in preparation for missions and service opportunities this spring and summer.
While we hope these are incredibly usable for you as-is, we also highly value reciprocal learning—a process where you learn from us and we learn from you in an ongoing dialog that leads to real ministry transformation for all of us. So we hope you will not only download the curriculum, but will also participate in our online FEEDBACK SURVEY to help us make this curriculum better.
Be sure to watch for the May E-Journal, which will debut the rough drafts of the DURING AND AFTER portions of the test curriculum for free download. Please note that the curriculum will only be available for a limited time on our website, so download it before this summer hits!

Adrenalin addiction, while rarely discussed, is perhaps one of the more pervasive addictions for leaders and youth workers today. And though it may sound like we’re exaggerating, it is an actual clinical reality. Read on to learn not only more about this secret ministry obsession, but also a surprising strategy for moving beyond adrenalin and toward balance.
